Agri-Communicator Award
Agri-View recognized Ray and Alice Antoniewicz with the Agri-Communicator Award at last weekend's Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival.  The Agri-Communicator Award acknowledges the efforts of individuals in the agriculture industry to communicate with others, including other producers, the general public, legislators and a host of other groups and individuals.  This was Agri-Views's first year recognizing a representative from the Wisconsin sheep industry for this award.
Ray and Alice have raised sheep on their A-Z Farm near Oregon for the past 35 years.  Their flock currently totals about 100 commercial ewes, which they raise on 34 acres of pasture under intensive management grazing.  Ray and Alice's objective at A-Z
Farm has been to provide an agricultural related educational experience for non-farm youth and adults.  They offer educational tours of their farm, and open their farm to the public during sheep shearing and lambing.  Last year, their efforts brought over 5,000 visitors to their farm.
The Antoniewiczes' desire to educate extends beyond the general public, too.  As members of the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative, Ray and Alice hosted the group's annual Sheep Production Field Day just this past spring.  Sheep producers from across the state came to tour Ray and Alice's farm, learn of their management techniques and hear from a variety of different speakers.  The event was a natural extension to Ray and Alice's efforts toward education.
